Matt Seely, Principal

Mr. Matt Seely is proud to call Idaho his home. He is a 30-year resident of Burley. Mr. Seely earned a bachelor’s degree in history education – with a minor in mathematics education from Brigham Young University (1996). He also holds a masters of education degree from the University of Idaho (2003).

Now in the 30th year of his career as a teacher and school leader, Mr. Seely is the founding principal of Riverton Classical Academy. Mr. Seely is a teacher at heart who recognized early in life his desire to work in K-12 education. After teaching at the junior high and high school levels for several years, he moved to school leadership, where he led two elementary campuses over an 18-year period. Along this journey, he has continually sought to improve public education – studying the tenets of sound learning and always promoting policies and practices that put children’s deep learning as the highest priority. After years of encountering obstacles to his goal of elevating education, Mr. Seely is delighted to have joined the American classical education movement through Hillsdale’s K–12 Education Office and American Classical Schools of Idaho (ACSI). Becoming part of the American classical education community has aligned his lifelong pursuit of educational excellence with a collaborative, vision-driven team. This opportunity is deeply meaningful to him and fulfills long-standing professional and personal goals.

Mr. Seely’s vision is to create an educational environment where students acquire the skills necessary to access the beauties of profound learning. He is eager to engage students in the highest matters and deepest questions of truth, justice, virtue and beauty. His ultimate aspiration is that Riverton Classical Academy produces outstanding citizens and moral, capable human beings.

Mr. Seely and his wife, Kim, have four children and one grandson. They love to travel with family just to be together, learn about different places, and make memories. Mr. Seely’s other hobbies include hiking, reading, serving at church, home improvement projects, and outdoor or sporting activities.
